Having started on Sunday July 11th 2010 from Barcelonnette (Alpes de Haute Provence - France) Matthieu de Quillacq has just landed at Oshkosh (Wisconsin - USA) to take part to the World's Greatest Aviation Celebration !
Each year Oshkhosh Wisconsin in the Midwest welcomes the World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration.
EAA, Experimental Aircraft Association has been organizing this air show for more than 50 years. The show starts this year on the 26th of July.
Matthieu De Quillacq has registered there this year to present his Kompress Charlie helicopter and he has gone there flying from France !
Having fitted a 44 gal. additional tank to his helicopter Matthieu started on Sunday July 11th at 05H47 local time from Barcelonnette (Alpes de Haute Provence - France).
After a stop at Berck in the north of France he crossed the Channel starting from Cap Gris-Nez and then stopped at Lashenden in England. He started again the same day to reach Wick airport in Scotland.
On Monday 12th of July Matthieu started again from Wick towards Iceland via the Faroe Islands.
Tuesday 13th : having crossed the sea from the north of Iceland to the south-east coast of Greenland Matthieu reached Kulusuk airport about 580 km to the south-west of his entrance point. In the area : whales and a little cold !!
On Wednesday 14th Matthieu tried to fly over the Greenland ice cap to cross directly from Kulusuk to Holsteinborg Sisimiut on the west coast, but he had to turn back because of weather conditions. Having come back to Kulusuk he then followed the coast in the direction of Narsarquaq airport at the southern tip of Greenland.
The following day Thursday 15th he flew towards the north along the west coast till Holsteinborg Sisimiut.
Friday 16th is the day on which Matthieu crossed the Davis Strait towards Baffin Island. He landed at Kangiqsujuaq Airport near an Inuit village after almost 1500 km flying.
On Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th he flew over Canada and landed at Sault Sainte Marie airport.
Matthieu landed at Oshkosh (Wisconsin USA) on Monday July 19th !
